Here at The Bar HD Ranch we strive for excellence in our breeding program; we want cows with lots of kick and athletic ability. What The Bar HD Ranch defines as an athletic cow with lots of kick would be catty, fast moving, and kicking over her head. This is important to us at our ranch because, after adding the bull's size and conformation, it improves our offspring. The calves we raise will not only have both kick and ability, the calves will have size and build as well. We feel confident in our stock and our breeding program because of our ranches strict cull policy. We start out by bucking our heifers shortly after weaning. This is to determine the heifers athletic ability. For example, if our ranch's cows can not kick over a coke can, we do not want their genes in our pool; therefore the heifers must be culled. After looking for ability we look for conformation. A cow can not be frail and make it in our ranch's breeding program. Conformation is just as important as the cow’s ability. Then we look at the cows breeding and history. Our ranch bases 25% of our decision to cull on papers; the other 75% is on conformation and ability. A good bred cow with no ability is just a waste of grass. A great producing cow will make her her own bloodline history. Once our heifers have been selected for breeding, we then decide on a bull. Most of our selecting factors depends on the bull's size, ability, and bloodlines. Our ranch's final decisions are based upon what we feel will cross well with our cattle and improve our herd. After picking the best candidate we sit back and wait for the finished product. If the calf doesn't fit our ranch's qualifications it will not be sold on this website.
